Authors write about the sacredness of space and time and those "thin
places" on our planet where Heaven seems to touch Earth and you find yourself
aware of the Holy, and filled with the Spirit. These moments of spiritual
awareness are enhanced, and perhaps even caused by finding ourselves in
the midst of great natural beauty, where silence is the music and the sun
or the moon and stars are the light to show us the soft earth and sky colors.
In northern Minnesota we are blessed to have one such thin place, and the
opportunity to breathe in that Spirit. The Environmental Stewardship Commission
believes that the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is sacred ground
here in the Diocese of Minnesota. It presents creation to us in just this
way—a window to the kingdom of God—a glimpse of heaven here in this lifetime.
Consider this, and be more aware of God’s presence in all of creation,
and your place in it.
