Children's Environmental Day Camp
July 30-31, 2004
North Woods Family Camp, an overnight camp, is scheduled for July 30-31,
2004, at the Kawishiwi River National Forest Campground
on Minnesota Highway 1 south and east of Ely, MN. Friday afternoon
kid's camp followed by family activities Friday evening and Saturday morning.
Camping optional.
Events will include swimming, seining, nature crafts and games, storytelling,
and campfire.
The camp will be under the direction of
Mary
Groeninger,
St.
Mary's, Ely. This is the fourth year of a program of activities
based out of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Ely.
If you are interested in attending, contact Mary
Groeninger (218-365-3364) for details. Attendance is limited,
so please register in advance.
Directions:
The Kawishiwi River Campground is a National Forest Campground on the
Kawishiwi River about 12 miles south and east of Ely.
FROM DULUTH

Take MN Hwy 61 North towards Two Harbors

In Two Harbors, take MN Hwy 2 towards Ely After about 45 miles, MN Hwy
2 ends at MN Hwy 1

At this junction, turn left onto MN Hwy 1 towards Ely.

As you get close to Ely, look for signs for the Kawishiwi River Campgrounds

Turn in at the entrance.
COMING FROM THE TWIN CITIES

Take I 35 North towards Duluth

Take Exit 237 onto MN Highway 33, which joins US Highway 53 North at Independence

Follow US Hwy 53 through Virginia, MN

About 6 miles north of Virginia, MN Hwy 169 turns right off US Hwy 53 and
is signed for "Ely". Take this turn

In Tower MN Hwy 1 will joint MN Hay 169

Follow MN Hwy 169 and MN Hwy 1 through Ely

When MN Hwy 1 turns south, take this turn

Drive approximatley 12 miles and look for signs for the Kawishiwi River
Campgrounds

Turn in at the entrance.
FROM WESTERN MINNESOTA

Follow your normal driving route to Grand Rapids, MN, or Hibbing, MN

Follow US Hwy 169 towards Virginia, MN (there is construction along US
Hwy 169 between Chisholm and Virginia (about 16 miles)

In Virginia, MN, US Hwy 169 becomes MN Hwy 169. Follow MN Hwy 169
towards Ely

About 6 miles north of Virginia, MN Hwy 169 turns right off US Hwy 53 and
is signed for "Ely". Take this turn

In Tower MN Hwy 1 will joint MN Hwy 169

Follow MN Hwy 169 and MN Hwy 1 through Ely

When MN Hwy 1 turns south, take this turn

Drive approximatley 12 miles and look for signs for the Kawishiwi River
