Next Quarterly Meeting:
Summer Solstice 2008

The next meeting is the Summer Solstice Meeting and Clean-up session, to be held June 12-14, 2008 at the Mary Brown Environmental Center, 715 S. Central Avenue, Ely, MN (map below). The Clean-up session is on June 12 and the meeting will be on June 13-14.

Meeting Schedule:

  • Arrival for the Work Day will be in the early afternoon of June 12, 2008.
  • Arrival for the meeting will be around Noon of June 13, 2008. Bring a sack lunch or eat before arriving.
  • The regular meeting will begin at about 1 PM on June 13, 2008.
  • The meeting will conclude around 1PM on Saturday, June 14, 2008.
  •  If you plan to attend, please contact Tom Harries or Jill Peterman.

What to Bring

A sign-up e-mail will be circulated closer to the meeting. Everyone is asked to bring pot-luck food to share for melas starting with Friday dinner through Saturday lunch, plus snacks.  If you plan to spend the night at the house and have arranged with Tom Harries or Jill Peterman, bring sleeping bags, pillows, pads or air mattresses; also towel, etc. and personal items.

Accomodations

Limited accommodations are available at MBEC (bring sleeping bags and mattresses). Meals will be pot-luck and everyone is welcome to sit in on all the meetings.  Please let Tom Harries or Jill Peterman know if you plan to sleep at Mary Brown's house.
If you would rather stay in a motel in Ely, check the Ely Chamber of Commerce
(800-777-7281) for a listing of available motels.

Directions to the Mary Brown Environmental Center:

The Mary Brown Environmental Center is located at 715 S. Central Avenue, Ely.

FROM DULUTH

  • Take MN Hwy 61 North towards Two Harbors
  • In Two Harbors, take MN Hwy 2 towards Ely After about 45 miles, MN Hwy 2 ends at MN Hwy 1
  • At this junction, turn left onto MN Hwy 1 towards Ely.
  • As you arrive in Ely, Minnesota Highway 169 will join from the right as you turn left (Ely Chamber of Commerce building is on the left).
  • Drive through Ely to Highway 21 (about 2 miles). The intersection is at a traffic light.
  • Turn left (south) at the traffic light (The Chocolate Moose cafe is on the far right corner) onto South Central Avenue
  • MBEC will be about 0.5 mile down the road on the right (look for the "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You" sign). The house has red wooden siding, shortly after the turn for the Golf Course. Wilson Street is on the left across from the driveway. If you get to the Ely Gospel Church, you have gone too far.
COMING FROM THE TWIN CITIES
  • Take I 35 North towards Duluth
  • Take Exit 237 onto MN Highway 33, which joins US Highway 53 North at Independence
  • Follow US Hwy 53 through Virginia, MN
  • About 6 miles north of Virginia, MN Hwy 169 turns right off US Hwy 53 and is signed for "Ely". Take this turn
  • In Tower MN Hwy 1 will joint MN Hay 169
  • Follow MN Hwy 169 and MN Hwy 1 to Ely
  • As you enter Ely, MN Hwy 21 will be at the first traffic light. Turn right (south) at this traffic light onto South Central Avenue
  • Drive approximately 0.5 mile. MBEC will be on the right (look for the "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You" sign). The house has red wooden siding, shortly after the turn for the Golf Course. Wilson Street is on the left across from the driveway. If you get to the Ely Gospel Church, you have gone too far.
FROM WESTERN MINNESOTA
  • Follow your normal driving route to Grand Rapids, MN, or Hibbing, MN
  • Follow US Hwy 169 towards Virginia, MN
  • In Virginia, MN, US Hwy 169 becomes MN Hwy 169. Follow MN Hwy 169 through Tower towards Ely
  • About 6 miles north of Virginia, MN Hwy 169 turns right off US Hwy 53 and is signed for "Ely". Take this turn
  • In Tower MN Hwy 1 will joint MN Hwy 169
  • Follow MN Hwy 169 and MN Hwy 1 to Ely
  • As you enter Ely, MN Hwy 21 will be at the first traffic light. Turn right (south) at this traffic light onto South Sentral Avenue
  • Drive approximately 0.5miles. MBEC will be on the right (look for the "The Episcopal Church Welcomes You" sign). The house has red wooden siding, shortly after the turn for the Golf Course. Wilson Street is on the left across from the driveway. If you get to the Ely Gospel Church, you have gone too far.
