Deuteronomy 30: 11-14

Surely, this commandment that I am commanding you today is not too hard for you, nor is it too far away. It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will go up to heaven for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?’ Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will cross to the other side of the sea for us, and get it for us so that we may hear it and observe it?’ No, the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe.

 

Reflection on Deuteronomy 30: 11-14

Moses was talking about the command to love the Lord God and to show that love by keeping the commandments.  He told them it wasn't about events far away or things past or in the future.  it was about behavior then and there, a basic code for living that has passed from that time to this;  it is about behavior here and now.

Showing our love for God by caring for the creation is like that.  It isn't too hard or too far away.  It is always timely.  The word should be in our mouth and in our hearts for us to observe.  It should be our way of life;  our way to show love to God by caring for what God has given us.
