Canticle of the North Shore

Welcome! We're glad you're planning on observing a liturgical season of creation.

The Canticle of the North Shore is a particularly Northern Minnesota Canticle about God's Creation. It may be used on any or all of the Sundays of this celebration. Readings for this Sunday:

Canticle of the North Shore
(A Song of Praise)

O give thanks to our Creator who is good,*

whose love endures for ever.

You, sun, moon, and stars, and the northern lights,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

Sunrise and sunset, night and day,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

All hills and valleys, wetlands and lakes, fog and rain, mist and snow,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

You birch and pine, spruce and maple, mosses and ferns,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

Lake trout and walleye, bass, and northern, loons and herons, ducks and geese,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

Deer and moose, cats and dogs, eagles and sparrow, grouse and hawk,*

give to our God your thanks and praise.

Note: The Canticle of the North Shore was originally written by the Rev Margaret W. Thomas.
