Lectionary Reflection
Reflection on Isaiah 45:21-25
by Nan Stokes
Now it is Palm Sunday, and, for many, the study groups are finished with their assignments and people are preparing "in heart and mind" for Holy Week. Today we are called to do another hard thing before we can rejoice on Easter Day -- we have to read the story of Christ's passion and death together. While we are singing about palms being waved in a joyful procession, and perhaps have palm branches to carry, we are wrung by that story. Is it part of the creation story that God has chosen to redeem creation with his only Son? Now we know there is no other way. As we journeyed in our wilderness these past weeks, we have learned about the repentance that is necessary if we are to be redeemed and restored. We also learned that we are sustained and upheld by God's love for us and for all of his creation, and we believe that his mercy and loving kindness are everlasting. We can be redeemed and restored and it is happening now!
